K&A Consultancy Ltd — Chartered Surveying

Creating a professional-services identity built around credibility, expertise and room to grow.

K&A Consultancy Ltd was a surveying and property consultancy practice serving London and the Home Counties, providing building surveying, party wall and legal property consultancy services.

Its audience included both domestic and commercial clients, including owners of larger property portfolios who required professional advice, qualified expertise and dependable service.

The challenge

The practice needed an identity that communicated the credibility expected of a chartered surveying business while retaining the personal service that differentiated it from larger competitors.

K&A initially operated with Party Wall Surveyors as its descriptor, but there was already an intention for the business to broaden towards Chartered Surveyors as its offer developed.

The identity therefore needed to feel established and professional without tying the practice permanently to one specialist service.

The strategic approach

The starting point was understanding how the business wanted to be perceived, who it needed to appeal to and where it intended to go.

The discovery work explored its audience, competitors, service proposition and intended differentiation. The business identified qualities including experienced, professional, reliable, established, purposeful, clear and refined.

Rather than building the identity around a decorative property symbol or a single service, the direction focused on creating a restrained professional system capable of supporting the practice as it evolved.

The response

A typographic identity was developed around a restrained navy and gold palette, creating a professional presence appropriate to the surveying and property sector.

The system was deliberately flexible. The core identity could accommodate the earlier Party Wall Surveyors descriptor and later transition to Chartered Surveyors without requiring a complete redesign.

The identity was extended across business cards, letterheads and compliment slips, creating a consistent system for everyday professional communication. The later Chartered Surveyors stationery also incorporated the line “Building brighter futures.”

The final business-card system clearly presented the founder’s professional credentials alongside the broader Chartered Surveyor positioning.

The work included:

  • Strategic discovery
  • Audience and competitor consideration
  • Positioning direction
  • Identity development
  • Typographic hierarchy
  • Stationery system
  • Business cards
  • Letterhead and compliment slips

The outcome

The completed identity gave K&A a coherent professional presence while retaining the flexibility required for the practice to broaden its positioning over time.

Rather than locking the business into one specialist service, the system supported its transition from a narrower Party Wall Surveyors perception towards the wider Chartered Surveyors proposition.

Decode

Viewed through Ampersans’ current Decode framework, the project began by looking beyond the visual identity to understand the business itself: its audience, competitive environment, service model, intended differentiation and longer-term direction.

The central question was how a specialist practice could communicate the credibility and expertise associated with a larger professional firm while retaining the direct, qualified service that distinguished it.

Distil

Viewed through Ampersans’ current Distil framework, those insights were reduced into a clearer professional proposition and communication identity.

Expertise, reliability, personal service and refinement became the principles guiding the identity, while the adaptable descriptor system gave the practice room to broaden its offer without losing recognition.

How this reflects the Ampersans approach

K&A demonstrates how professional-services communication often begins with a question of perception rather than aesthetics.

Understanding what a business needs to signal, who needs to trust it and where it intends to go creates a stronger foundation for the communication decisions that follow.
